Which stove top fan

This two axial fan designed by the Irish company IQ Design will distribute warmth evenly throughout any room it is in. Should there be restricted clearance above the stove, the company offers a smaller version of this fan that is only mm high: the SmartFan LT Mini, with just a slightly poorer performance due to the shorter blade diameter. There is one more stove fan dedicated to work on the beautiful soapstone, gas or convergent stoves — the Ecofan BelAir.

It was introduced by the pioneering stove fan manufacturer, Caframo — based just miles away from London… in Ontario, Canada. The Ecofan Belair is less than mm high, and has been fitted with two Peltier modules to provide enough energy to propel CFM. If you are still unsure about the effectiveness of stove fans and thinking the price of them can be quite an investment, we are very pleased to introduce a great little starter fan. It has a retro design reminiscent of the first fans to market from the big brands such as Caframo or Valiant nearly a decade ago.

Despite their revisions over the years the retro design of My Stove Fan will in no way affect the efficacy of its main purpose, which is to circulate the hot air around your room. It has very large blades that produce a good volume of airflow, we could feel it from 6ft away about 1. The blades do give a quiet hum, but it is not intrusive. As with many other modern designs, the My Stove Fan is fitted with a bi-metallic strip that bends, and in turn, tilts the fan to protect its motor and Peltier module from overheating; a common problem with all stove fans.

The SFR stove thermometer can be placed next to your fan or on the flue pipe as it comes with a screw and wire to secure mounting. This gives you the comfort of knowing how hot your stove is and that your fan is safe from damage. In case there is a height restriction above the stove, the market has a fair number of small fans to offer. Probably the smallest fan is the UK made Fan-C by Look Creations, unfortunately we have never tested it so cannot give a reliable recommendation.

Although if the aperture is not that low, the Valiant Ventum 2 at mm might be the perfect solution. Check our video where we compared every facet of the Ventum 3 and Ventum 2 to get a better understanding of their construction differences:. Another interesting fit for a low opening over a wood stove might be the Phoenix Mini with 4 blades. All stove fans need to be kept away from the flue pipe — the Peltier powered fans are the most vulnerable to overheating.

These fans should be placed at least mm away from the flue, if the fan is to be placed in front of the flue then a mm gap is required. Because of the unusual SmartFan construction their fans should be placed so the axial fan never draws air in that has been warmed by the flue pipe, which usually gets hotter than the stove top.

The market is flooded with extremely cheap stove fans, as with every other product, you can always find some flimsy copies of the quality merchandise.

We cannot recommend them as we only test the above fans and we always pack in a top notch customer service ; check out the reviews from our verified customers. Stove fans are very easy to use and are proved to provide heating and fuel efficiency — just find the one that meets your stove, room and aesthetic requirements.

The Lowdown on Stove Fans Now you have your wood burning stove installed and have had it running for a few weeks, you may have noticed that there are cold spots in your room. We have been in the stove fan business for a few years now and feel that we can help you answer your mounting questions: Which is the right model?

Whisper-quiet: The only moving part is the blade assembly. Material: Made of high strength aluminum alloy which makes the stove fan no burr, fined and neat surface. Less Consumption, More Efficiency: The stove fan will help reduce the fuel consumption and make the room warmer quickly. Temperatures above this range may damage the stove fan and the electricity generating units.

If you have already spent money on an expensive wood stove, you might be wondering why on Earth you should spend even more on buying a fan to sit on its surface. Yet there are several reasons why you should seriously consider making the investment.

A wood-burning stove does get very hot, that much is true. A stove fan sits on top of the stove and prevents the heated air from escaping upwards and being lost, instead channelling it through the room so that you can stay cozy and warm no matter where you choose to sit.

A non-electric stove fan will begin to work once your stove has reached a set temperature and will then self-regulate effectively, working faster to channel the heat around the room when it is most needed. They use thermoelectricity to distribute heat about your room. In turn, this will rotate the blades. On the top of the device, there is a cooling system which keeps the top cooler than its base so that the blades continue spinning.

In theory, they function on any type of wood-burning stove that gets hot enough on its top. There must, however, be sufficient space at the side or rear of the stove to enable optimal air flow and to ensure that the stove can reach the minimum temperature to activate the fan. There are some stove fans on the market which are designed to be activated at a lower temperature.

These are perfect for small wood stoves which are unable to reach very high temperatures. These models are ideal for helping to disperse heat more effectively even when your stove is unable to reach the high temperatures required for a conventional fan to function. You will need to put it on the stove top itself so the bottom will react to the heat of the stove to commence the thermoelectric process. If you place it towards the side of the flue, with approximately to mm at the rear, the stove fan will be able to receive sufficient cool air to function at its optimal level.

Although the best stove fans are able to withstand very high temperatures it is still possible for them to overheat and become damaged. In some cases, these devices may actually cause the room to heat up too much and cause you to feel uncomfortable in your living space.

If this happens, you can simply remove it from the stove top for some time until the room has cooled down a little. Also, a stove fan can become so hot that it burns out. Every model comes with its own maximum operating temperature. If you exceed this, the motor could be burned out or the device could be damaged. You can prevent this from happening by either removing it from the stove completely or moving it onto a cooler part of the stove. Once you are familiar with your stove and its fan, you will get a better idea of its temperature during use.

These devices are especially useful for freestanding stoves which are in enclosed spaces such as a traditional open fireplace. In these types of spaces, the heat cannot properly disperse around the space and therefore a fan is highly beneficial to maximize the heat.

All you need to do is place it in the correct position on the top of the stove and wait until its temperature has reached the required minimum.

The fan will start to spin and the fan will then regulate itself so that the heat maintains an optimal level for as long as you want the stove to stay in operation. All you have to do is place it close to the back of your wood stove but with sufficient space remaining at the rear of the fan. Make sure that the base of the fan is in contact with the wood stove itself, then light your stove, wait until it has reached the right temperature and your work is done.

However, if you are sitting else where in the space or want to heat another part of your home more effectively, you could benefit from bringing the stove fan into use.

You will also find it very useful if you have a larger room and there are several people sitting in it. Now that you know more about how to choose a wood-burning stove fan, you can make a more informed purchasing decision. The right model will make an enormous difference to the comfort level of your living spaces and will help you to enjoy your leisure time at home more than ever before.

Welcome to the world of warm living!
